Saltash Community School students from Year 7, 8 and 9, as well as our friends from Landulph Primary School, recently showed fantastic motivation to complete the Saltash Cross Country course.
The Inter House Cross Country competition, which took place on the 10th October, saw students compete in the first event of a multi-sport year-long inter house tournament. It also coincided with ‘World Mental Health Day’ and in the build up to this event PE staff at Saltash have been helping students understand the positive benefits of physical activity on mental health.
Students from Landulph Primary School also travelled over and joined in for the Year 7 race. They competed superbly with some finishing in the Top 20 which is a fantastic achievement.
All podium finishers were presented with a trophy in a post-run presentation. The stand out performance of the day was from Year 8 girl Hollie Reid who is a national standard middle distance runner. Hollie recorded the fastest time of all year groups that ran. A fantastic performance from a Year 8.
Speaking at the end of the competition, Head of PE, Mr Hawkins, was delighted with the efforts of each year group.
“Another year and another excellent Cross Country event at Saltash Community School. Participation for the races was fantastic and the competitions ran really smoothly thanks to the great help of the Year 10 Sports Leaders who marshalled the course really well. A number of students found this to be a really tough challenge, but showed real tenacity and motivation to finish the course today. They were supported and encouraged all the way by their peers, it was great to see. Really well done to all who took part today.”
