LOCAL GOVERNOR VACANCIES

We currently have vacancies on our Local Governing Committees for Co-Opted and Parent Governors.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. You will also be joining the largest volunteer force in the country.

Schools need governing committees that have a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience to enable them to be effective. Ofsted (the national inspection body for schools) has repeatedly noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management – including by the governing committee.

Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor (but there are some exceptions) and you do not need to be a parent. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute. Schools need and benefit from a range of professional knowledge on their governing committee including education, finance, human resources, legal, marketing and public relations, property and estates management, and organisational change.

Governors can expect to attend around 6 meetings per year, held either in the afternoon or the early evening.

We warmly welcome applications from flexible, dynamic individuals that can deliver the wide range of cover lessons with energy and infectious enthusiasm to students of all abilities across KS3 and KS4.

The Academy is staffed with subject expert teachers whose lessons need to be covered when they are away from the Academy.  We are very well resourced through our commitment to provide outstanding opportunities for learning, including well-appointed classrooms, sports facilities and access to IT.

Our Academy is part of the South East Cornwall Multi Academy Regional Trust (SMART), which provides for outstanding local career opportunities, excellent professional development opportunities and access to expert support, advice, guidance and knowledge pooling from fellow practitioners in our partner schools.

The PE department is staffed with subject experts and is very well resourced through our commitment to provide outstanding opportunities for learning, including a sports hall, a multi-use games area, extensive playing fields, well-appointed classrooms and access to IT suites. 

As part of our investment in training and development, we would look to fund a minibus driving qualification, should the successful candidate require this.

We warmly welcome applications from emotionally attuned individuals that can provide the best possible pastoral care and support for all of our students.  There are two opportunities, one with a focus on students in Key Stage 3 and those transitioning from primary school, and the other focusing on students in Key Stage 4 and their preparations for examinations, future learning and employment.  Please read carefully the personal attributes within the person specification of the job description.
