A feeling of excitement was in the air last Friday as 21 eager runners arrived at Lanhydrock not just for the fourth race in the series but it was also the qualifiers for Newquay County Championships. A few felt the nerves but I have to say all 21 runners were pretty calm as they took to the start line. The girls took off in a very fast paced race, and all six ran. We have previously been finishing in fourth place, but this week we came in THIRD for the second time, finishing with 122 points. This was an absolutely brilliant effort from the girls, and I am super proud of you.

The five boys ran their socks off and all had big smiles on their faces. The first 20 boys through were all in a big group, so it was a hard and fast race, so Lachlan did really well. I know he felt disappointed but he ran so well and should feel proud of himself like we all do. He also ran around again to keep Lilly going, so I am sure he will be even more awesome when he does double the distance next year. A great effort from our Year 3’s and Oscar. They all train hard and put in top effort into the races. Well done boys

The boys were brilliant this week. One in particular – Isaac – made Newquay County Champs. So proud of you Isaac, you set out to secure yourself a place in the team and you did. You were the fourth Year 5 boy through, so that’s a fantastic result indeed. Callum, Archie and Harry all put in a gutsy effort and look stronger every time they run. As a team you came in joint 8th which is the best team result you have had all season. Watch this space when you are all in Year 6.

So everyone from Landulph, be proud of our Cross Country team. They turn up to training with smiles on their faces and are so keen to run. Massive thanks go to the parents who can help me out on a Monday and to Mrs Plumb.

Thanks to Mel Bennett, who runs and organises Landulph School’s Cross Country team, for this report.
