Talented writers at Looe Community Academy were delighted to see their work in print last week.  After entering a national competition with the ‘Young Writers’ organisation, over 40 students age 12-14 from Years 8 and 9 had their short stories published in the book ‘Welcome to Wonderland:  Timeless Tales’.

Lucy Oldham, their English teacher, (in the photograph) said: ‘Competitions are a great way to spark creativity and also to encourage high standards of literacy. Students have also been successful in a recent poetry competition and many have been inspired to find other opportunities in their own time.  Seeing their work published is a huge confidence boost and it’s lovely to see them enthused about writing.  We have so many great writers at the school and competitions are a fantastic way to celebrate their achievements.’ The book is called ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ and it can be purchased via their website:  ‘www.youngwriters.co.uk‘.
