Part Time Drama Teacher

Start date: 4th January 2021

Closes: 15th October 2020 11:59 AM

Temporary, Part time 0.6FTE Drama teacher

Are you looking for a post that will be exciting, fulfilling and could lead to further career development? Are you passionate about drama and able to inspire and motivate students and staff? The Saltash Performing Arts Team is a highly ambitious department, focused on improving the outcomes and life chances of all children. We are highly collaborative and have great links within the trust and with wider arts organisations. This is an exciting time for the school and for the Performing Arts team, as we look to recruit a new member to further develop the opportunities for our students, both within the classroom and beyond.

We offer a thoughtful and varied programme of study for all students. This includes a discrete KS3 curriculum in both drama and music and GCSEs in drama and music. Both subjects are popular, with 2 groups in each subject in both Year 10 and Year 11. At Key stage 5, from September 2021, we will be delivering the Cambridge Technical Level 3 in Performing Arts.

In drama, our team places strong emphasis on devising and performance skills, alongside developing the necessary technical skills to make outstanding progress. You would be joining a well-equipped department with a specialist drama studio with full blackout and lighting and sound, together with one additional drama teaching space. In addition, the department has use of a proscenium stage in the main hall where we put on our annual musical production.

As a department, our positive, inclusive ethos supports students in making excellent progress, through an appropriate challenging curriculum and relentless encouragement from the staff team! The school has a very proactive continuous professional development programme. In addition, with this post there will be plenty of opportunities to develop ‘in house’ drama extra curricular work and to work with our partners which include the Theatre Royal, Plymouth. Our recent whole school productions include ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Grease’, and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and our students are keen to do more.

We look forward to meeting you.

The role is for a temporary Part time 0.6FTE Drama teacher. The right candidate will be in post from January to July 2021.

LOCAL GOVERNOR VACANCIES

We currently have vacancies on our Local Governing Committees for Co-Opted and Parent Governors.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. You will also be joining the largest volunteer force in the country.

Schools need governing committees that have a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience to enable them to be effective. Ofsted (the national inspection body for schools) has repeatedly noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management – including by the governing committee.

Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor (but there are some exceptions) and you do not need to be a parent. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute. Schools need and benefit from a range of professional knowledge on their governing committee including education, finance, human resources, legal, marketing and public relations, property and estates management, and organisational change.

Governors can expect to attend around 6 meetings per year, held either in the afternoon or the early evening.

If you would like to discuss the role informally in the first instance, please contact the Clerk to Governors Kate Williams by email – Kate.Williams@smart-trust.net
